If this was going to be just another year for evaluation, why the rush to jettison both parts of the CF platoon less than 3 weeks into the season? A lot can develop after 24 ABs for Alford or 41 ABs for Fowler and a team doing nothing but looking for players can afford to wait it out with slow starters. But maybe this better than expected start to the season gave them hope that the team might not be as far away from competitiveness as they thought and they're trying to win more games now instead of being patient with underperforming players.

Could be. I dunno, though...if both Fowler and Alford just hit sub-.200, I might go along with that. But the fact they were hardly even making contact leads me to believe the front office might have figured there was nothing to wait around for to eventually emerge from under the dung heaps.

But I will say it does seem a big difference from the past regime. I'd guess under Huntington, both guys would have gotten to at least June.

I was thinking the same thing. Huntington would've given Alford and Fowler way more time than either would've deserved. I like that BC cut ties with them so quickly. It tells me he's a much better evaluator and that he's not afraid to admit to having made a mistake in signing a guy.

I think a big part is in the way the Bucs acquired both of them. There previous team's just let them go for nothing.

As for Fowler and Alford both were terrible and deserved to get DFA. Slide Reynolds over to center and play Evans everyday in either right or left. Polanco’s time you gotta believe is running out as well. I like that Cherrington is proactive and not waiting around another month or to watch guys like Fowler and Alford continue to stink.
Good still wandering why not bring up Goodwin.

I think Evans is going to be seeing a lot of time in the OF now with Todd Frazier available as a fill-in at 3B as needed. So Goodwin would likely be on the bench. It would appear they prefer to take a look at the rule 5 guy Tom as a reserve OFer. If they move on from Polanco at some point I think Goodwin would be the replacement and probably start in CF with Reynolds going back to a corner.

Here is the lineup I wouldn’t mind seeing now on a daily basis with Todd Frazier now up here and Hayes still out. I would sit Polanco at this point and move Adam Frazier to LF and go with this.

A Frazier LF

Evans RF

Reynolds CF

Moran 1st

T Frazier 3rd

Gonzalez SS

Newman 2nd

Stallings C

Reynolds looks very comfortable in CF.
