We're going streaking

Post by Tintin »

When the sunset on July 10, just 14 days ago the Pirates were

42-49.

We were 12.5 games out of the division, 11 games out of the 1st WC, and 8.5 games from the 2nd WC. We had the 11th best record in the NL.

We were

12.5 games behind the Brewers

11 games behind the Cubs

9.5 games behind the Phillies

8.5 games behind the DBacks

8.5 games behind the Braves

7 games behind the Dodgers

5.5 games behind the Cardinals

4.5 games behind the Giants

4 games behind the Rockies

4 games behind the Nationals

and to me most telling only 1.5 games ahead of the REDS for last place.

This morning, we are 52-49. We are 7 games (passed the Nats, Cards, and Giants) out of the division, 4.5 games out of the 1st WC, and 4 games from the 2nd WC. We have the 8th best record in the NL.

We have gained

8 games on the Brewers

4 games on the Cubs

5.5 games on the Phillies

5.5 games on the DBacks

4.5 games on the Braves

2.5 games on the Dodgers

7 games on the Cardinals

5.5 games on the Giants

6 games on the Rockies

6 games on the Nationals

and 6 games on Reds (while killing Harvey's trade value).

During the streak, we have played 88 innings. We have been behind at the end of an inning JUST ONCE (8th inning, July 15th), during the streak.

The pirates have outscored opponents 64-20.

The offense has hit .310 during the streak, while hitting 20 home runs.

The pitching staff have allowed multiple runs in an inning just four times during the streak. Three of of those multiple run inning came with the Pirates holding at least a 5 run lead.

The Pirates starters have recorded six quality starts during the streak, but in all ten games, the pitchers have allowed less than three runs in the first 6 innings of the game.

During the streak, the bullpen has pitched 28 innings and given up 4 earned runs. Michael Feliz has pitched 4 innings and given up 3 earned runs. Tanner Anderson gave up the other earned run in the extra inning game. The rest of the pen has a clean sheet over the last ten games.

The Pirates have made just three errors and allowed just one earned run during the streak.

It's been a really fun two weeks.

When we were losing for the long stretch we were pretty regularly committing errors at a similar rate to getting extra base hits.    3 errors over that stretch is an incredible turn around.  Couldnt do more of a 180 offensively and defensively

I get the sense the Pirates are a bad weather team. Early, when it was cold, they did well. Then when it got nicer for a short bit, they tanked. Now that monsoon season is here they are hot again. They are what horse racers would call "mudders." Let's hope for a wet August!

I can only assume that if current trends hold up then we're going to win the rest of our games.
