1. Kevin Newman (R) 2B

2. Bryan Reynolds (S) LF

3. Starling Marte (R) CF

4. Josh Bell (S) 1B

5. Melky Cabrera (S) RF

6. Jung Ho Kang (R) SS

7. Jose Osuna (R) 3B

8. Elias Diaz (R) C

9. Joe Musgrove (R) P

Polanco hasn't played since Sunday. Injury? Or is this Hurdle masterfully giving him a rest that will lead to him being Babe Ruth the rest of the season?

For those of us who don't have time machines, I'll modify the post from 6/24 to 6/21. :)

With respect to Polanco, perhaps Hurdle has somehow decided to play the OFers who are more deserving of playing time. This is a hard concept for me to wrap my arms around, but for the moment, I am going to believe that it is true.

In an article in the Trib today, Hurdle admitted that it's hard to keep Reynolds out of the lineup. I'm sure he'll still work all 5 OFers into the lineup as much as possible but it's looking like Reynolds and Marte will play the most. And IMHO, Polanco offers the least.

Yeah, I want to see Dickerson, Marte and Reynolds for the most part. Melky would be my first choice as PH.

I was looking at multi-hit games among the 5 OFers. Reynolds has 18 multi-hit games in 43 starts (42%) including 3 3-hit games and a 4 hit game. Marte has 23 multi-hit games in 60 starts (38%) including 6 3-hit games and a 4-hit game. Cabrera has 15 multi-hit games in 46 starts (33%) including 4 3-hit games and a 4-hit game. Dickerson has a pair of 2-hit games in his 9 starts. Polanco is lagging behind with only 7 multi-hit games in 36 starts (19%) including 2 3-hit games. As a career .252 hitter it makes sense that Polanco just doesn't get hits as frequently as the others. Maybe Hurdle is finally realizing that.

Well, since no one else has posted, good win tonight. Musgrove was great. Scoreless innings from Crick and Vazquez, though not without drama. Still too many mistakes. Dropped pop up. Bell missed catch. Diaz TOOTBLAN. Marte thrown out at third, but I can overlook that as there was one out. Always good to get to third base with one out. But hey, a win's a win.

Some TOOTBLAN from the Padres too. That's what you get when two teams like the Pirates and Padres meet I guess.

Still this is the kind of game I like. Pitching, fast, tight.
