Yea this was a game today that you have to win if you’re the Pirates up 2-0 most of the game. They have to find a way to nail down a game like this on this road trip and instead they are looking at a 3 game sweep to start this 10 game trip. Assuming the Pirates lose today their record is now 6-14 since May 19th which was 3 weeks ago today when their record was 24-20 after winning 3 of 4 in San Diego. You knew this road trip had the potential to get ugly and so far so good. The attendance is really gonna suffer as well at PNC Park if this team falls out of contention in early to mid June. There are still 50 home games remaining just about and there is gonna be a lot of empty seats at PNC Park if this continues.

Why wasn’t Crick brought in in the 7th inning instead of Rodriguez when it was still 2-1 then he was shown warning up when it was 4-2. How many freakin times does Hurdle have to use Rodriguez in high leverage situations to know the guy stinks this year and can’t come in and hold the lead. It makes no damn sense and their better be a good explanation from Hurdle which I’m sure there won’t be for doing so.

Brault pitched well today, but they started playing need a starter and bullpen help in the worst way.

The only reliable relievers have been Liriano, Crick and Vazquez. But in his last 5 games Liriano has pitched 4.1 innings with 7 hits including 3 HRs and 5 ERs for an ERA of 10.38. Crick had been outstanding until his most recent game: 0.2 IP, 1 HR, 3 R, 2 ERs. In his last 7 games Vazquez has pitched 7.2 inning with 10 hits including 2 HRS, 3 walks and 6 ERs (ERA 7.04).

Their most effective starter had been Lyles. But in his 4 most recent starts he's pitched 18.2 innings (an average of 4.2 per start), 23 hits, 16 ERs, 8 walks and an ERA of 7.71. Musgrove pitched very well his last time out. But for the month of May he has an ERA of 8.10. Archer's good starts have been few and far between as his 5.20 ERA attests.

Then there's the Not Ready for Prime Time BP ERA disasters of Hartlieb (9.75), Feliz (7.71), McRae (6.75), Holmes (5.06) and Rodriguez (5.47 with 9 HRs). Surprisingly, their most effective pitcher recently has been Brault. His most recent 4 games have resulted in 21.1 IP, 16 hits, 5 ERA and an ERA of 2.11 despite 11 walks.

I know that the rash of injuries and the FO's reluctance to obtain adequate replacements has led to a BP staffed primarily by AAA pitchers but I can't recall a time when the entire pitching staff struggled as much as this one currently is. In their last 20 games they've given up 142 runs (7.1 per game). :(

Bobster: Thanks for the research. Those are some condemning stats. It says that currently, you have no idea who will perform on a given night. Talk about a crap shoot!
