When Shelton includes VanMeter in the lineup, what is the rationale? "Ok, he's blocking a prospect with a future who would benefit from the playing experience but he.......what?"



We need his below average defense?

We need him to be an automatic out until we PH for him?

He's a veteran who once batted as high as .237?

He's coming off his 2nd best career year when he hit .212 last season?

That career .206 BA is bound to go up any day now?



The VanMeter situation is truly perplexing. Any sane organization would have quickly realized he has to go ASAP. So the fact that the Pirates not only see no reason to move him but actually see reason to play him is rather frightening. Whatever their rationale is, it has to be very disturbing to those who want to see the organization improve.

somebody named Fred on Bucs dugout will defend VanMeter. His reasons make no sense to me.
