Bucs Acquire Dustin Fowler

I'm not sure how much money typically changes hands when a deal like this mentions 'other cash considerations', but I'm going to assume that it is similar to taking a flyer on a Rule 5 draftee.

Thus, assuming that the cash is a rather minor amount, that Alford is hurting, that Fowler has a pedigree, that Fowler can play CF, and that there is no heir apparent to play CF, why not? The worst that could happen is that they release him and lose him on waivers.

Welcome aboard Mr. Fowler, even if it is even for just a blip of time.

Fowler with a big bases clearing double today, as well as his first hit yesterday. They have only played one week of games, but Fowler’s chances of making the team could be better at this point than Brian Goodwin. In my projected roster I had Goodwin making the team, but I am not certain now.

I agree, fjk. Goodwin vs. Fowler could go down to the final day of ST.

I'm rooting for Fowler. He is 4 yrs younger, an excellent fielder, and to Nutting's excitement a slightly over the minimum salaried player who has 5 more years of control.

Fowler had a couple big hits when he arrived, but he has not done much in the past few games. If he does not produce much during April he may end up being released, and either Goodwin or Frazier will join the roster. Since Frazier is back, I doubt if it would take long before the Pirates would add him to the roster if some players are struggling.

I guess when ST began he asked, "What do I have to do to make this team?" And he met the criteria. He may have even exceeded it. :)
