Here is a link to an article from Jeff Todd at MLBTRs.

Phillies Reportedly Agree to Sign Bryce Harper

Would love to see the details if it is front-loaded as reported.

The Bucs dodged another bullet. The Phillies will soon learn that you can't tie up a large percentage of your payroll on a couple players.

Baseball’s financial structure is so out of proportion. The industry needs some type of salary cap and floor in order that all teams can be competitive. The small market teams have to align themselves against the large market teams and get the game on an even playing field.

No concern. We got Melky on a minor league deal.

That said, I do not understand why a team would offer a 13 year contract. Harper is a good player, but he has some warts.

Looking at both Harper and Machado, it now appears that the strategy for some of the 'big' players is to simply wait it out until some team overpays.

Can you imagine if Harper slumps in Philadelphia?

He will be booed louder than Santa Claus!

Bucs will pick him up in twelve years for a stretch run to try and chase down the eight seed in the newly expanded playoff format in the realigned eastern conference. We'll send our 2032 first and second round picks (which can now be traded) plus our number 1 and 3 prospects, since Philly is eating all but the then league minimum of $1.625 million.

And we'll have him DH.

Pirates should have signed Machado. Lord knows that they had enough salary flexibility!
