Yankees Offer Cole $245 Mil

The Yankees have offered Cole a 7 year contract valued at a reported $245 mil.

That is $35 mil per season and more than $1 mil a start, even if Cole remains healthy through-out the term of the contract, which is unlikely.

Stated simply, a think this contract is a bit out of the Pirates price-range. At present, it is equal to about one-half of next year's projected payroll.

Wow. Just wow. What happened to those prospects the Pirates wanted for Cole that Cashman refused to release?

I am curious to see how Cole continues to pitch outside of Houston. Verlander, Cole and Morton certainly blossomed there and it looks like Morton continued pitching pretty well when he left. I would worry a little bit how well Cole can handle NYC and if he regresses from Houston. That is a lot of money.

Yankee stadium is a small park but so is the Houston stadium. It will be interesting to see how he does there. I suspect he has the attitude for it.

I see Strasberg got that deal ($245MM) from the Nats. Must mean Cole is getting more.

I wonder when the Pirates will sign someone to a contract of greater than $60 million.

Believe Kendall still has signed biggest contract with Bucs and it was for $60 million.

So, now that Strasberg as set the bar that Boras must sail over, how much does Cole sign for? Guesses? I think he will average $1m more than what Strasberg got. Something like 7 years for maybe $252m to $255m is my guess. But then I think I thought Harper would get a bit more last year.

$324 million for 9 years. I was hoping he would sign with the Angels.

Remember the year Cole was pissed off because the Pirates wouldn’t give him a substantial raise over his 550k salary?

He now will be making over a million dollars a start! Wow

That's the free market at work.

And I actually think it's more likely he thrives in NY than combusts. He has an IDGAF attitude that I think works there.
