The Departed
Not the best of seasons for guy-who-frames-pitches, Jake Stallings. Loses his arb submission and gets paid $2.45 million rather than the $3.1 million he sought.

Pitcher Dave Wickersham, 86, died this weekend. He was only briefly a Pirate - 20.2 innings in 1968. He best season was 1968 with the Tigers, when he went 19-12. He was from Erie.

Although it never happened with the Pirates, its good to see Tallion having a break-out season with the Yankees. His arm injuries were bad enough, but pulling through testicular cancer as well speaks to his strength as a person.

Does anyone know what's up with Chris Archer. Did he retire or is he injured again?

Pitching for the Twins: 1-3, 3.44
I didn't know, either.

I know Mark Appel never wore a Pirates uniform, and there were some odd things reported about him when he was drafted, but there's a good interview with him on the MLB.com site about his career. He seems like a real good guy, well-spoken, and grateful for having a second chance.

The funny thing is, if he had signed with the Pirates he'd probably be emerging with some other team right about now, anyway.
