Little surprised the Yankees signed him because it appears he is not the type of player they usually sign. They seem like they sign players who have had some success in the Majors. Brito seems like the type of player the Pirates, Royals or Rays would sign.

George Spriggs died on December 22 at age 83. He was one of the legion of outfielders fighting through the Pirate system in the 1960s. He had the misfortune of hitting .300 at Columbus in 1966, when the big team had four outfielders who hit .315 or higher. Spriggs signed with the Pirates in 1963, and was one of the last players to move from a Negro League team (Detroit Stars) to a major league organization.
