It is definitely not turnstile count. A number of years ago the NL did turn stile and AL did paid attendance. Now both use tickets sold. So unless there are a lot of free tickets given for a particular game the announced attendance is almost always larger than the number of people in the park (because no shows get counted)

The team is playing well now. Many hearts were broken when Cutch was traded. It might take years to recover even if Cutch is on the decline. How many million Cutch shirts were sold? Worse attendance since 1996, and this team is better than all except 2013, 2014 and 2015. I call it the loss of innocence and the horrible realization that baseball is a business and not a game.

I agree with loss of innocence. I think a lot was self inflected by management too. NH coming out and saying they want to put together a team that projects to win 78-82 was awful although I think a lot of fans had already figured out the team was not really trying to win.

I wonder if the fact that Archer is generally seen as a good guy who is active in the community played a role in the team targeting him. Not only get a new pitcher, but possibly a new face of the team.

That couldn't hurt. He definitely seems like a good guy and is easy to root for.

Attendance for year is now

1,377,741 with the average at 18,873

The A's have passed the Bucs.

But the A's cheated! They had 65,000 in attendance when they had free seats for the anniversary.

nope, attendance totals are for tickets sold only.  The tickets the Bucs are giving to teachers won't count either.

Wednesday night attendance 13,073

drops average to 18,698 and total goes to 1,402,380

Friday night in the rain attendance was better than average 19,243

On season the average is now 18,705 season total of 1,421,623

Reaching 1.5 million won't happen this season.

Saturday September 22 attendance 23,070

raises season average to 18,762 and season total to

1,444,693

Bucs will only have 78 home dates because of double headers and rain out (unless October 1 game is held)

It could be a lot worse. The Marlins averaged about ten thousand fans per game. Our triple AAA team in Indy average almost nine thousand.

yeah, trading Nutting for Loria would not help the Bucs.
