Or he could be a platoon player. He could play right when Polanco is on the DL and vice versa.

You think we can convince them to alternate their injuries?

We might have to. Otherwise we'll get Jaso if they both are out.

Meadows left today's game with injury

Post by Speedloader88 »

I was listening to Neal Huntington's pre-game show on the radio before Sunday's game. Greg Brown turned the conversation to injury prone players. Huntington indicated that he had learned many years ago that the label "injury prone" has merit. He indicated that the type of injury isn't the indicator of future injury. He said that in order to determine if a player is likely to get hurt in the future, you must look at their history of injuries playing the game. It was his belief that if a player has a history of getting injured playing the game of baseball regularly in the past, it was fair to conclude that player will be prone to injury in the future. He made a soft denial that it impacted his willingness to trade a prospect but then back tracked a bit and indicated it can be a factor. The conversation was centered, not around Meadows, but around Francisco Cervelli. He acknowledged it was fair to label Cervelli as "injury prone" and that they were aware of this possibility when acquiring and resigning him. In that instance they felt Stewart and Dias provided enough of a safety net that they could take a chance and hope for the best. I suspect the same conversation would apply to Polanco and Meadows.

Cervelli wanted a lot more originally with his demands. Maybe this is why Huntington signed him to a lot less?

Were there articles that detailed some of the negotiations or told a bit more of the story? I don't remember reading about that.

Can you post a link to an article or two? Thanks in advance.

that only works if they both aren't injured at the same time. Certainly not something to count on.

Thanks. I do vaguely remember reading that.

By the sound of Dog's post, I thought he meant he read something more than some unnamed source, who may have heard that Cervelli wanted more than what he ended up signing for.

Just for the record, I was in favor of the Cervelli contract extension. Considering how NH hadn't produced a major league catcher and it was obvious that Tony Sanchez was a failure, the Cervelli deal seemed like a good idea.

Turns out, I was wrong. As was NH.
