The paper showed there were 8,000 plus at last nights game. I assume that"s paid, not actual attendance. Tonight looks less than that

It becomes comical listening to Greg Brown trying to talk up the Pirates. Tucker comes to bat hitting .173 and Brown tells us he's one of the best hitters in the NL when swinging at the first pitch for batters who have swung at the first pitch 10 or more times. Tucker swung at the first pitch 11 times. Brown had to stoop to a miniscule sample size on an irrelevant stat to praise a .173 hitter.

A week or so ago Brown praised Reynolds for routinely running into right center to field a single and throwing it into 2B. A few days ago he couldn't stop talking about how Hayes braced himself for a bad hop and threw the batter out. Hayes is an outstanding fielder but that was a play you hope any competent 3Bman makes.

It's like "the announcer who cried 'great.'" When he says that when it's not warranted it hard to believe him when it really was a great play.

Keller with the exception of his last outing, seems to be back to normal

Looks like Keller has resumed his bad game/good game/bad game/good game pattern. It's problematic that his good games are usually held to 5 innings. They like to pull him early before he can mess up but that doesn't let anyone--including himself--know if he could have sustained success in a game. Any pitcher can have occasional success in short spurts. We've seen Nick Kingham pitch 7 perfect innings and now he's in Korea. We've seen Krannick pitch 5 perfect innings and now his ERA is 7.66. And whenever Keller pitches well, they pull him before he can fail. So when he comes back with a bad game next time we wonder why he can't repeat his good games. But he fails so frequently that it's more likely that those good games would not have ended up good if he had pitched longer. Unless a pitcher can consistently pitch effectively for about 7 innings, we never know if his good but short starts are signs that he's turning a corner or merely games where he was pulled because he was lucky to have made it through 5 innings without imploding.

Cabrera should request a trade to the Cards. Playing the Pirates in division would probably add a year or two to his career.

On usual nights like this with very small attendance, they should let the fans come down and sit in the field level seats.

Maybe they should ask if any of them can hit.
