Kai is the rare case whose OPS is the sum of a higher OBP than the SLG. I find OPS a very strange stat because it's the sum of 2 numbers with different base systems. OBP is a base 1.000 and SLG is a base 4.000. So OPS is so heavily weighted by SLG that it doesn't seem fair to make OBP part of that equation since the 2 sums are not on equal footing.



But Kai's ability to draw walks has him with a .371 OBP despite a weak BA of .217. His .370 SLG wouldn't be among team leaders on most teams. But it's good enough for the Pirates. But very unusual to see OBP higher than SLG in determining OPS.
