Despite being a Pirate fan my whole life, the only game I have ever seen in Pittsburgh was five years ago today. It was one of the most memorable games of the season. The game went into the 10th, when the Cardinals quickly scored twice to go up 5-3. The Bucs battled back and won on a two-run hit from Cervelli. The stadium went wild in the last game heading into the allstar break.
The day before, we arrived late in the afternoon, had dinner, rode the incline, and did some sightseeing. We got back to the room late, but the game was still going. In the 14th, the Cards scored to go up 5-4. Neil Walker got on base, and McCutchen hit a two-run homer to win it.
Incredibly fun trip. I truly thought that 2015 team had the most complete 25-man roster in baseball that season. Arrieta and the one-game wildcard ruined our great opportunity that year. Nutting stole our opportunity after that.
Nonetheless, great memories of this day five years ago.

Yeah, seems like at least 10 years!
I hold the distinction of being both a Pirate fan and a Kansas City Chiefs fan. It's bad enough the Bucs are 41 years into their last championship. The Chiefs were 50 years between titles. But they latched onto the best player in football when the drafted Mahomes. As a fan, I feel there is no game the Chiefs can't win.
I noted the Bucs had the best 25 man roster in 2015. That is not what wins championships. It is having some transcendent talent/s that typically gets you there.
Baseball is different, but let's hope sometime soon, the Pirates find that special talent. Someone who gives his teammates, fans, and ownership the confidence to go all in for a title shot. Of course ownership is the X-factor.

Agreed, having a few very talented players is essential to winning. I had no faith that the previous front office group could bring those kinds of players here. I'm going to give Cherington and his people time and support and hope like heck they can do the job. Because, as you alluded, the owner isn't ever going to help.

I remember that as a thrilling weekend, but I don't agree with your take on the Pirates roster at all.
Our 2015 team didn't even win its division or a post-season game. There is no way the rosters compared favorably to the teams that went beyond it. No way.
That's not to say it was a bad team. It just didn't stack up. It went as far as it could have gone. Bats were stymied by one dominant pitcher, true. But, the rest of the Cubs team took us to task, too.
Our 2015 team didn't even win its division or a post-season game. There is no way the rosters compared favorably to the teams that went beyond it. No way.
That's not to say it was a bad team. It just didn't stack up. It went as far as it could have gone. Bats were stymied by one dominant pitcher, true. But, the rest of the Cubs team took us to task, too.

2015 was tremendously stressful.
In the end, it still killz me that the Cards, Pirates, and Cubs went 30-10 against the Mets and Dodgers during the season, but the setup assured one of those latter two would make it to the NLCS. if I was Commissioner for a day, I'd set up a rule that if a wild card had the better season record and won the season series, it would take a division winner's spot in the playoffs.
In the end, it still killz me that the Cards, Pirates, and Cubs went 30-10 against the Mets and Dodgers during the season, but the setup assured one of those latter two would make it to the NLCS. if I was Commissioner for a day, I'd set up a rule that if a wild card had the better season record and won the season series, it would take a division winner's spot in the playoffs.
