Jason Mackey has heard that the Bucs and Yanks have had discussions about Josh Bell and Jameson Taillon. Bell doesn’t seem like a fit for the Yanks since they are covered at DH and first base.

The Yankees are so loaded not just with hitters but with pitchers as well. If BC dumps these two guys it will be nothing more than a salary dump.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Joe Musgrove and Adam Frazier are the two Pirates players whose names have come up the most in trade talks.

The report comes on the heels of one from Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, who said the Pirates have had talks with the Yankees involving Josh Bell and Jameson Taillon. Pittsburgh already non-tendered four players at last week's deadline and it seems they are still in cost-cutting mode. Musgrove and Frazier are projected to make around $8 million or so between them via arbitration.

_________

It looks like Cheringbton will not be happy until the whole team is LMG's. Will we even be able to field a team?

I take this to mean that BC is at least exploring options. I can see where Taillon might have some interest to teams; I'm not so sure on Bell, and particularly the Yankees who already have more home-run hitters than they can work into the lineup. But it could mean the Pirates do something over the winter.

You've been begging Cherington to do something. Anything. Be careful what you wish for.

:) Good point. I'm actually hoping for something positive, not just a trade for the sake of a trade. For example, we have more middle infielders than we need and few real outfielder than we could use. But maybe a positive trade is not possible. But I'd at least like the idea of an effort. Today will be a test - we'll see if BC picks anyone in the Rule 5 draft. I'm for the catcher from the Cardinals. Good (apparently) on defense already with a chance to develop the hit tool.

The one fact that keeps coming to mind for me is that Cherington has little to trade.  (A team doesn't win just 19 of 60 games without there being a good reason.)  His best players have ugly warts.  Taillon is coming off a second major arm surgery.  Bell has had but three good months in the major leagues.  Moran is still unproven.  Frazier, Newman, and Reynolds had really bad years.  Musgrove is inconsistent.  Polanco is totally unreliable.  If BC can get anything for any of those guys he might be charged with theft.

Bell to the Yankees makes some sense. With all the power bats the Yankees will have it allows them to package at least one not named Stanton to get a guy like Lindor from Cleveland. Just saying!

I can imagine Cole telling the Yankees to go get Taillon.
