Proposal For 2021 Season

Post by fjk090852-7 »

Just read that MLB has made a proposal to the Players,to delay the season about a month. The season would consist of 154 games, the players get full pay, the DH is used, as well as an expanded playoff. One site indicated ST would begin March 22, and the season would begin April 28th.

Interesting that the season is so up in the air this late in the winter. Makes you wonder what those people (players and teams) who have signed contracts already are thinking. The DH could affect the "value" of a number of players.

It is amazing MLB starts making proposals for the upcoming season in late January. It sure would be good if they would start these negotiations in early November. Think about players, staff, announcers who must make living accommodations for ST, and right now approximately 3 weeks until everyone figured ST to begin it is being proposed to delay it a month.

Since the players are getting their full pay, I'm sure they are okay with spending another month at home.

Just one month of Spring Training. The players will love that. It seems way too long to me from mid-February to the end of March.

Just heard on the evening news the Players Association is expected to reject the proposal tomorrow. Not certain if the Players will make a counter proposal. Here we go again, just like last year these 2 sides cannot agree on anything.

I don't see what other choice they had. One, they had to be prepared to go as scheduled, obviously best case scenario. But worst case was they had to have a contingency of sorts.

Too much of what needs to happen is controlled by individual states. That's an awful lot of terrain to try and navigate. Best to put a hold on again.

But, sure is starting to look like last season all over again.

I wonder what it is they would be objecting? Full salary would seem optimum to me, but I'm guessing the playoffs have something to do with it.

Articles I've seen are saying the two sides are trying to angle for an advantage in the next round of negotiations for the new collective bargaining agreement, after this coming season. The secondary issues override the apparent common sense of any current offer.

I think the owners benefit more than the players with the expanded playoffs, so probably the Players want a larger portion of the playoff revenue. Expanded playoffs, and DH are probably 2 items the Players would want to negotiate when the current CBA expires at year end.
