Well, Archer got through three unscathed.

Good win.

Instead of a 2-8 disaster, that could have been a normal, somewhat respectable road trip if they hadn't blown 9th inning leads in MIL and ATL.

The offense has shown so much promise this year with so many good and surprising performances, it's just a real shame the entire pitching staff has basically been a dumpster fire. Lots of injuries, granted, but absolutely no depth whatsoever and a lot of horrific performances.

With very average pitching, this team would be well over .500.

Winning 2 out of 3 in this series was almost a MUST have. I wanted a sweep but we’ll take 2 out of 3. Hopefully with Williams coming back this week and Musgrove pitching 2 games this week hopefully the Pirates can stack some wins this week at home against both the Tigers and Padres and slowly climb back toward the .500 mark.

I wouldn't count on the Padres being easy wins. (First of all, I'm not sure there are easy wins in baseball). The Padres are doing a touch better than the Pirates at this point.

The San Diego Padres own the Pirates at PNC Park.

They are an amazing 37-17 at PNC.

In fact the Pirates did not win their first home series against those Padres until 2015. They have only won 2 series in 18 years.

Pirates are now 4-8 in games started by Archer. Considering how horribly he's pitched, that's pretty good. It hasn't hurt that they've scored 27 runs (7, 9, 6, 5) in those 4 games. Archer's ERA for the 4 starts won by the Pirates is an unimpressive 4.50.

Well the Tigers and Padres are the I guess you could say “easiest” games on the Pirates schedule in the next 2-3 weeks. After that the Pirates play 13 straight games against the Astros, Brewers, and Cubs before the All Star Break. So needless to say a 4-1 possibly 5-0 week against both the Tigers and Padres almost needs to happen.
