Bucs claimed I. Vargas from Cubs and designated Troy Stokes. Vargas plays multiple positions.

looks like E-Gon but with a poorer bat and glove.

I guess the Pirates saw enough about Stokes Jr. to think he is not going to turn into anything more than a fourth or fifth outfielder.

I liked Stokes, I was hoping he'd get more time, but apparently, he had enough to try and convince them to DFA Polanco. If you want to dump an 11 million dollar player, the guy replacing him better be playing at least like an 8 million dollar player

I liked Stokes as well. Vargas stats aren’t special, but I guess the Pirates like the player due to him being able to play multiple positions. He is similar to both Gonzalez and Difo.

This goes along with what we've been saying. Cherington brings players in for a look/see and then makes a quick decision if he's not impressed. Vargas has had only one season with more than 51 MLB ABs. That was 2019 when he hit .269 with 6 HRs in 201ABs. And he's versatile. But I'm sure he realizes he may not be here long. Tom probably isn't buying a home in the 'burgh just yet either.
