I don't think Huntington signed anyone multi-year until Russell Martin in the 2012-13 offseason, after Huntington had been in place for five full seasons. They had a pretty good nucleus together by then, but no internal options at catcher - Rod Barajas and Michael McKenry had caught literally every inning in 2012.

Edit: I want to walk this back a bit. They gave Clint Barmes 2 years, $10 million going into the 2012 season. Similar situation to the Martin signing - Ronny Cedeno hadn't been good, and no one at Indy was ready. They also gave 2 years to Ramon Vazquez going into 2009.

I forgot we traded for Spencer Horowitz. That might be a good addition. I liked Ortiz but a first baseman, which we haven’t seen since….Who….Bob Robertson???

It is early, but Pham did not hit well in ST, and currently he has two hits, with an average of.087. He was not on my wish list for outfielders to pursue, and so far he has been a bust. If his lack of hitting continues, it will be tough to keep him in the lineup on a daily basis.

Canario has to be inserted into Pham's spot in the order and be told the job is his. If after 10 days he's performing well, Pham should be released. It doesn't matter that he's owed a lot of money, he has to be paid whether he's here or not. It'd be a positive if he were gone because it would keep Shelton from putting him in the line-up.

I can go longer than ten days unless a roster spot is needed. Frazier and Pham could turn out to be decent pinch hitters - at least better than Abraham Nunez.

You just made me feel better. Knowing that Abraham Nunez is not on this team makes me realize we're not as bad off as I thought.

As long as Frazier (after Gonzales's return) remains almost exclusively as a pinch hitter and maybe an occasional Sunday line-up addition, I could live with him staying, although I don't prefer it. As for Pham, I just see him being in the way of younger guys who need the at bats and playing time.
