Some New Quick Thoughts

Post by MaineBucs »

1. Newman soon needs to rediscover his 2019 season to remain relevant.

2. Geez, Evans has played all of 3 games at first in his MLB career and he executed well on two 3-6-3 plays last night. Moran has mastered the same. I know he is no longer a Pirate, but it was difficult to watch and likely more terrifying to him for Josh Bell to try and turn such a double-play.

3. Mr. Oviedo, sorry for the encouraging shout-out to you the other day. Hope that it didn't precipitate your melt-down last night.

4. April's flirtation with .500 likely is the high watermark for the season. Barring Hayes returning like a man possessed, and solid hitting from Reynolds, A. Frazier and Moran, mixed with a sprinkling of prowess from the likes of Stallings, Tom and Stokes, it likely is time to embrace our destiny --- the battle for the bottom. The joys of being a Pirate fan.

5. The highlights for the remainder of the season may be feel-good stories like the Stokes family flying to Chicago on very short notice to catch the last few innings of their son's first game. Congratulations to Troy Strokes for making it to the majors and for parents who care so much and for a son who quickly reached out to them to let them know. Also great to see them in Pittsburgh last night.

6. As for last night's game, the Reds did a great job of converting 15 hits and 5 walks into 14 runs. We need to hope (make that pray hard) that all of these bad outings will miraculously contribute to Keller learning how to be a major league pitcher. While I doubt this to be the case, it can't happen if you don't believe it could.
