Similar to some reports on Baz's performance this year, as well as what Meadows has done in the majors, it appears that the Pirate's minor league talent evaluators underestimated the value (understatement) of some of the Pirates' prospects.
It also appears that we are better at judging talent in other organizations, such as Reynolds, Williams, Vasquez (although he was in the majors), Rodriquez (no not Sean), and such better than some of our own.
For example, no one appeared to see the break-out performance of Newman coming down the pike; hence the trade with the Indians for Gonzalez.
I believe that missing on prospect evaluations, the life-blood of cheap teams, is a greater indictment of NH and his management structure than the inability to build a winning team with an unrealistically low budget.
