Anthony Solometo

Post by bucs607179 »

Nothing earth shattering here but he is on the Altoona Curve. He was drafted in 2021. He is 21 years old. Lefthanded pitcher. He stands 6' 5". I know nothing about him but I hope he has a major league fastball. Intimidate the heck out of batters. Anyone know of the guy??

Only reason for post is I met his Grandfather today. Saw a guy with a Pirate hat and went over to him and he told me the only reason he had on a Buc hat was because it is his grandsons team. He is not a Pirate fan.

I went to see Solometo pitch on Friday night. Not a major league fastball. He was 86-88 mph. I suspect his ceiling is Ryan Yarbrough.

I remember there was some hype when the bucs drafted him. 88-86 mph fastball
and his ERA doesn't look promising

He's supposed to wait until he's pitching for the Pirates to get a 6.27 ERA.

Speaking of grandkids,
Spent the weekend at softball tournament for my 2 grandaughters. One plays 12u and the other plays 8u. The 8year old only played 4 games as they were eliminated, but she was MVP of the first 3 games. One of the games she cracked 2 HR's and a triple. She played a flawless 1B and has only been playing for a year. Hard nosed, and really takes the game seriously but has fun playing. She practices with the 12U team at times.
The 11 year old played all 6 games in their bracket, going 8 for 9 with 8 walks and 9 stolen bases, 13 runs scored and 2 xbh. The one out was a line drive that the 3rd baseman snared. They won their bracket for the first time ever. She splits her time between SS and C and plays with her heart on her sleeve and her hair on fire.
They play travel ball, so I go from North Jersey to South Jersey routinely. Spring season for the 12U team so far is 21-19 with one tournament left, after going 6-20 in the Fall of '23, and 10-30 in the '23 Spring season.
This grandfather is still a little hoarse from all the shouting and cheering. Felt really good after watching the 12u team get mud stomped for the last 4 years while they grew together as a team. Last 3 tournaments they finished 2nd, 3rd, and 1st. The 8U team will get there in short order as they have a couple really good girls who vastly improved as this year went along.

Very cool! Any chance she will play for our Bucs?? ;) Funny seeing this as I just got home taking a friend to Doctor and she was telling me about her granddaughter who is getting offers from Colleges because of her softball playing. She is really good. I have no idea how good a scholarship they offer but any money helps. I know your granddaughters are not seniors in high school but keep at em!! Get your old butt out there and practice with them. :P
