Cole Tucker has been granted his release by the Mariners. Just another #1 Draft bust by the Pirates. With all the poor seasons they had, their drafting of amateur players should have been much better.I really believe the current FO has a better ability to draft premier players.

Tucker gave me the impression that he was more interested in looking and being cool than putting in the work to become a good player.

Jared Jones was 1 strikeout short of the team record of 11 Ks in a pitching debut, held by Dick Hall. Hall became an elite reliever for the Orioles in the 1960s through 1971. But he began his career as a utility infielder/outfielder with the Pirates. He struggled as a hitter and did some pitching in a Mexican winter league in 1954. The Pirates sent him to the minors in 1955 as both an OFer and pitcher where he batted .302 with 13 HRs and, as a pitcher, was 12-5 with a 2.24 ERA. The Pirates recalled him in July and his first game was as a starting pitcher on July 24. He won the game, going 9 innings and striking out 11. A few days later on both July 29 and 30 he started in CF and batted cleanup.

The first starting RHP the Pirates will face in 2024 will be on Wednesday against the Nationals, against former Buc Trevor Williams.
