Official Game Thread - 4/23 - Bucs vs Brewers

Brewers

RF J. Chourio R
DH W. Contreras R
SS Willy Adames R
1B Rhys Hoskins R
CF B. Perkins S
3B Joey Ortiz R
C Gary Sanchez R
LF Joey Wiemer R
2B Brice Turang L
SP Tobias Myers R

Bucs

DH A. McCutchen R
RF B. Reynolds S
3B K. Hayes R
1B Rowdy Tellez L
LF J. Suwinski L
2B Jared Triolo R
SS Oneil Cruz L
C Joey Bart R
CF M. Taylor R
SP Bailey Falter L

Looks like Shelty is having the OFers draw straws to determine who plays corner outfielders. Cruz has been hot the last couple of games. Nice to see Bart as the catcher and give Henry some adjustment time on the bench.

The OF setup has been the same the entire season as to who plays where depending on the three guys in there.

Taylor in= Always CF
Suwinski in, no Taylor= Always CF
Suwinski and Taylor in= Jack always LF
Reynolds= Always RF with Taylor and Suwinski, with Suwinski in LF. Always LF if Suwinski is the CF.
Olivares= Always RF if not DH
Connor Joe= Always RF except when Reynolds was DH and Suwinski was CF, then he played LF, happened twice; and of course he's been 1B and DH. FWIW, the Pirates are 1-3 in the games he doesn't play. If the Pirates won at the same ratio the rest of the way with Connor Joe playing the remaining 139 games, they will go 92-70.

So the corner OF player is irrelevant anyhow. What is most relevant for the Pirates is Connor Joe keep playing. If they continue to win at the same rate with him in, they'll win the WS.

Connor Joe doesn't draw straws. He's the straw the stirs the drink.

Jesus, reading that outfield alignment explanation I thought I was back in math class doing one of those annoying logic questions.

Nice first inning for Falter. One walk, but a pair of strikeouts.

It’s Groundhog Day as McCutchen leads off the game with a HR for the second day in a row. 1-0 Bucs.

Cutch hits a HR on the first MLB pitch ever thrown by Myers. An auspicious debut for the Brewers' rookie pitcher.
