another interesting factoid involving Don Mattingly:

In his 14 year career, he hit 6 grand slams. All of them came in 1987, setting a MLB record.

And Jim Palmer pitched for 19 years, 3,948 innings and never gave up a grand slam.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread after reading this:
Madison Bumgarner (2) had more grand slams than Prince Fielder (1), who had more inside-the-park home runs (2) than Rickey Henderson (1), who had fewer steals of home (4) than Babe Ruth (10), who had as many shutouts (17) as Pedro Martinez.

The post I read didn't have the numbers, so I was skeptical, and actually looked up the information. It's legit!

There have only been two players in MLB history with the last name Moyer.

Ed Moyer, who died on November 18th, 1962.

Jamie Moyer, who was born on November 18th, 1962.

I love this thread. It makes me look real knowledgeable on another message board. Must admit I steal from here;)

Wow! When you think of it like that it's even more amazing. That was a great moment when he broke record.

Lost in Ripken's consecutive game streak is the fact that he also had a streak of 8,264 consecutive innings played. After leaving in the 9th inning on June 1, 1982 he played every inning of every game from the first inning on June 2, 1982 through the top of the 8th on September 14, 1987. Clearly, the Orioles did not appreciate the value of scheduled days off.
