This is the 3rd poor start in a row for Perez. And 5 of his last 6 have not been very good. I think it's concerning because last year he started out pitching well for Texas but was moved to the bullpen in August after struggling consistently in July.

2nd time Taylor bats with 2 on base. He does nothing either time. The guy is just not a hitter. And the Pirates can't afford the luxury of a defense-only outfielder.

Cherington seems to like those low BA, HR power guys. He's got 3: Suwinski, Tellez and Taylor. They're providing the countless outs and rare hits and not even the HRs (total of 5 between the 3 of them). The Pirates' biggest need now is players who can provide consistent hitting. Mlodzinski is being activated today. I'm guessing that's bad news for Nicolas.

Doc, I'd be fine with moving on from Suwinski and Tellez. They're the same type of hitter. Generally poor hitters but with power for those rare occasions when they make good contact. But those times are few and far between and come at the expense of countless killed rallies and unproductive outs. A ...

I think the 4th inning of this game has been my favorite. That'd the inning when the Pirates had hits.
