Re: Official Game Thread - 5/10 - Bucs vs Cubs
I'm as guilty as anyone for taking some of my frustrations out on the players, but I shouldn't. They're just not very good major league players. What we're getting from them is about what they're capable of doing. Occasionally, someone will do something out of the ordinary, like get an extra base h...

Re: Official Game Thread - 5/10 - Bucs vs Cubs
This was the 23rd game in a row where the Pirates scored in 2 or fewer innings.

Re: Official Game Thread - 5/10 - Bucs vs Cubs
Looked like a terrible strike call on Reynolds with the ball well above the pitch trak box. I'm all for robo ball/strike calls but the box displayed on the screen never moves. A batter can be short or tall, or bat from a crouch or upright position and the box never moves. I replayed that call on Rey...

Re: Random MLB fun facts
Fun fact about the second Hal Smith. ST.L. catcher who retired abruptly in June 1961 at age 30 when diagnosed with a heart problem. Was a coach for the Pirates in 1965 Pags, Crandall and Virgil were all hurt. Smith was activated, started a game on July 1 and appeared in 3 other games within the week...

Re: Random MLB fun facts
In 1927, Lou Gherig had 173 RBI. He batted 60 times AFTER Babe Ruth had cleared the bases. Sounds almost impossible. Sure is amazing. Yankees scored 976 runs that year. the next closest MLB team was Detroit with 845, more than 100 fewer runs. The MLB average was 554. Gehrig's astounding 173 RBI bar...

Re: Random MLB fun facts
Don Mattingly and Kirby Puckett played their entire careers during Cal Ripken Jr.'s consecutive games played streak. Wow! When you think of it like that it's even more amazing. That was a great moment when he broke record. Lost in Ripken's consecutive game streak is the fact that he also had a stre...
