Perhaps the forgotten man in all the talk about Taillon, Heredia and Cole, Stetson Allie enters fastball command 101 in State College. It'll be interesting to see how he can harness that lethal fastball.

This is going to take time.  I won't be surprised if he fails to get out of the first inning of his first start.  I hope people can temper their expectations for a while and not start wailing Smizik-style every time he walks a couple guys.

I completely agree Wilbur, he may have to be that guy that takes a few steps backward in order to properly develop. He'll have to not only learn how to pitch, but learn new mechanics. Classic transition from thrower to pitcher.

I didn't realize how little he has pitched in his amateur career. Here's hoping there are at least some encouraging stretches this summer.

It's mid-June and former top Pirate prospect Stetson Allie (was that Sharon Gless, or the uglier one?) has yet to win a game.   Another wasted pick on the road to perdition.   Hey kid, get off my lawn!!

Smizik might hurt himself whining about Allie's control problems if he whines every time Allie walks two batters. Allie could walk two batters before he throws his first called strike as a professional.

I was discouraged to see he isn't starting today for State College.  Hopefully he will show some glimpses this year.  With the other big pitching prospects, he may be able to get away with not being in the spotlight.

SC should have a pretty interesting staff apart from Allie.  Kingham and Hafner are more or less equivalent to the prep draftees who were there last year, and Emmanual de Leon, Joan Montero and Joely Rodriguez all have very good stuff if they can command it.

I'll consider it a success if he starts off better than Tyler Matzek has.

Minor league teams almost are never set up with their best player going game 1, #2 game 2, etc. They start throwing in March and whatever day their scheduled day happens to fall on thats when they start pitching. For them to start Allie opening day they would've had to decide it on March 1st and not had any rainouts/canceled games between now and then. They wont change pitching schedules just to get the "best" guy out there for opening day like major league teams will

Funny, I seem to remember some screaming about how the Pirates were cheap because they took Sanchez over Matzek.

I wasn't saying they were cheap, but I wanted the Pirates to draft either Matzek or Zach Wheeler (Giants).  I can't believe how awful Matzek is this year.  Wheeler's been pretty good to date.

Joely and De Leon interest me just as much as any pitcher on that team. Joely is my breakout candidate.

Vlad at BD wanted Shelby Miller, who is doing well right now. Still, the Sanchez method of picking might net the Pirates a starting ML catcher plus one or two ML starters and a relief pitcher.

I guess some have moved on from defending directly the choice of a defensive catcher 4th overall.
