owens looked bad from the get-go.  walked the leadoff hitter then gave up a blast down the right field line to harrisburg's slugging first baseman.  it bonged off the foul pole and was determined foul.  there's a green pole right next to the foul pole that it must have hit halfway up.

then in the second he walked the lead off man.  eventually, the first baseman hit a jammed/off the end of the bat liner into shallow center that helped chase rudy.

i don't believe rudy hit 90 on the gun in altoona.

morris often hit 94 for the record.  a couple 93s and 92s but mostly 91.

dubee was unimpressive.  might have hit 88 but usually was 86.  harrison could have ended the rally after making a nice stop with 1 out down the line with the bases loaded.  he stepped on third but threw a one-hopper to hague that was difficult and was missed.

i left the game.   Sad

Curve score 2 in the bottom of the 9th; still batting with 2 outs, just chased the Senators' pitcher.  Harrisburg now up 10-5.

Altoona loses 10-5 in Game One.  They surrendered five runs in the 2nd and five more in the 8th.  The Curve scored three runs in the 1st and two more in the 9th.

Interesting that Owens smelled up the field.  Fatigue?  And in addition to what you noted above, I believe they couldn't do much against Milone after the 1st.  He was on a roll.

Tomorrow night Jeff Locke goes against somebody who I believe I heard is 4-13 and has an ERA somewhere around the unemployment rate.

Best of five.  One more in Altoona, then Game 3 is Friday on the Susquehanna.

I don't have a Twitter account, so if someone that does could tweet Tim and ask him to move 8 feet to his left in the press box and see what the Pitch F/X guy has Owens' fastball sitting at...I would appreciate it.

90-91, topped out at 93.

I second that!  The Pirates have a better chance of winning on the nights Tim goes to a minor league game

Last year I was going to go to game one of the Lynchburg playoffs, and had car issues.  They lost that game.  I went to games 2 and 5 of the first round, and all three games in the championship series.  They won all five games.  My playoff record is now 5-1 after tonight.

I'll be on ESPN 1430 in Altoona tomorrow around 5:45 PM to discuss Pirates prospects and Altoona Curve baseball with Corey Giger. Can also be heard on AM 1450 in State College.  I'll have a link to a web stream at some point tomorrow.
