I wasn't saying I wouldn't want him, just explaining why I would prefer Konerko.

I've read that Dunn is lazy and basically a LH version of Carlos Lee.  Not the kind of guy you want around a bunch of young guys.  Not so much that he is a bad guy, just that he has no drive or desire to win.

I don't want either for $15mm/yr.
From what I've seen and heard, he is very good with the younger players.

Walker needs to stay at 2B.  His bat is best there.  He should not be the answer at 3B if Alvarez is moved to 1B.  I would rather see Rendon at 3B (good possibility).

When the pitching gets better, the defense will improve too. Aramis Ramirez was never a good 3B on defense but he has stuck there for the Cubs.  Did Ramirez improve his defense or did the Cubs have better pitching?

Why not move Steve Pearce to SS then? His bat might not be good enough for 1B, but he'll be the best SS in the league. When we finally get that pitching staff that allows nothing but pop flies and weak comebackers to the mound, we'll be the best team in baseball.

Is that what you really got out of my post?

I think Walker is holding his own on defense at 2B too.  It is a better overall option for the Pirates to have Walker be their every day 2B.  If he develops more power then that would be a bonus.

We all know Pearce can't play SS.  The same is not the case for Walker at 3B or 2B.

I agree.

I'm in the camp that thinks that Walker is good enough at 2B to stick at that position.  He isn't Bill Mazeroski, but he turns the DP well enough and has good enough hands to handle the balls that he gets to.

From what I have seen of Walker at 2B, his only problem is range.  With more experience at the position, it is not out of the question to believe that he might develop in that area.

Argument of false assumption, bad analogy or absurd.  Walker may not be a good defensive second baseman but he is much better at second than Pearce would be at short.

Now, if Pearce could play short as well as Walker, there might be some merit to the argument.  But there isn't.
