Would anyone have imagined 4 years ago,the way we saw all these guys pitch at certain times that you couldnt even put a halfway decent rotation together with these 8 guys we had. Remember,Im talking about 4 years ago,not now how they turned out.

Perez,Maholm,Snell,Duke,Gorzelanny,JVB,Burnett,Bullington. Thats 4 first rounders and 4 other guys we all saw pitch well for a period of time right around 2006 and all were in our system at the same time. You have nothing there. Maholm would be your 1,Gorzo who is buried in a poor teams bullpen would be your 2,Duke 3 and you would tune out the rest of the time.

The 6 we dont have anymore wouldnt even give us a glimmer of hope if we could get them back for nothing,4 are useless and Gorzo and Burnett could help the 5th spot/bullpen a little but no where near enough to make an impact. Next time someone says "you can never have enough pitching" there is your perfect example,8 starters who pitched very good to great in the minors,6 pitched well at some point in the majors, all on the same team JUST 4 YEARS AGO and you have what would amount to easily the worst rotation in the majors if you put them all together right now. I dont think even the most pessimistic Pirates fans could honestly say they saw that coming.

There was nothing behind them in the minors, but I still think the team that was together by the end of 2005 could have been respectable if Littlefield had found a manager who could develop players.

I believe this is the Pirate version of Murphy's Law. Nothing negative or catastrophic should be a surprise at this point.

It amazes and frustrates me,that all of those young pitchers, from the Liitlefield era, have either regressed,or have bombed out completely.Maholm and Duke started out impressively, only to become average pitchers,or worse. Were they overrated to begin with ? Has the coaching been inferior ?Or does the Pirates "culture of losing"drain the life out of everyone, over time ?

This owner does not care about winning and spending money to win on the baseball field where it counts. He says he will sign his own players when the time comes to sign them when they hit free agency or arbitration but that is just a lie in my opinion...Bob Nutting is happy as long he keeps getting fans in the park and keeps throwing them bones like fireworks, concerts, and bobbleheads. The guy is a disgrace in my opinion...

So your saying Nutting sabotaged their careers to keep their costs down...well it all makes sense now! Once again the rantings of an insane person, while seeming to be off-topic and out of no where, explains what rational thinking can not. Thats why I hang out at bus stations and take notes

It's about as rational as continuing to defend the acquisition of Eveland. Guess they talk about that at the bus station as well.

And while it was off topic and redundant...it a least does contain some fact. Not the ruining their careers conspiracy part. Just the not caring when playrs bomb because the money will keep cominh in....part. Don't want to derail the thread. Just found the condemnation of "Nutting is cheap" to be a bit quick when inane conspiracy theory laden defenses of the Eveland debacle go unchallenged except by a few who are then taken a bit to task themselves.

Oh. USA Soccer sucks.

This is why you can never have enough starting pitching even if it's Hayden Penn or Dana Eveland.

Who knows... one of those clowns could pull a Carlos Silva become a diamond in the rough.

There are many, many, many people that are in disagreement about the Eveland trade fiasco (previously stated that I'm one).
There are only a tiny minority of people who are trying to rationalize it.

I give Bob Nutting the benefit of the doubt, but the Nutting family did just sort of stumble into control of the franchise and I'm not sure where their profit/winning line is.

Somebody (I think Finder) has reported that Ogden is travelling with the team this week.  Is that unusual?

I would say those trying to rationalize it are doing so in a what-if discussion (Matt B. admitting as much, for example).  There are also a few of us (me included) who don't really care that much either way and wonder why we needed 12+ pages to discuss it.

I dont know how a thread about a group of 8 pitchers from 2006 totally failing just 4 years later got to this in less than 10 posts but I agree, soccer sucks no matter what country it is playing it.

Just 4 years ago...

I was getting ready to go to Vegas over the 4th of July with my then-wife and our married-couple-friends.  We stayed at Caesar's, went to a Cirque du Soleil show.  We went to Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill one night and I had an excellent rabbit loin dish.

We toured Hoover Dam.

We went to Ghostbar at the top of the Palms, I won some money playing poker, and we partied and sprayed money all over that town.

That's what I was doing 4 years ago.

You said 'loin.'

That is a silly word(plus, it pretty much means genitalia).  It made me chuckle.

And that tiny minority don't get made fun of or jumped on by most...and those that do call them out get flack for it. The few whose only response is "Nutting is cheap" get the Duke lacrosse groupie treatment almost instantly however. Just find that a bit odd is all.
