Baseball. He's a decent college QB. He will be drafted higher in baseball.

I do not think his chances of making it in football are all that high, he is a decent player, but I am not sure it is worth passing on the baseball.. As of right now, he has not made a choice yet. Clemson is planning on him being their starting QB this fall though.

So many of these guys sign too late to play in their draft year, anyway.

Thankfully, I think that guy is just guessing, although he's probably right that they won't take Taillon (or any other HS pitcher). I'm not at all excited about McGuire. They need to aim higher.

Taillon has given up 12 runs in 10 innings his last 2 starts. McGuire looks like a solid pitcher that would probably move up quick and be easy to sign. Personally I'd rather they went for a bat first round(and 2nd) and then signed a bunch of HS pitchers and any Justin Wilson/Nate Baker types that come cheap in the 5-10 round area. He must not like Brentz, the guy did good between mock drafts and he dropped him much further than I've seen him anywhere else

He plays in a big time conference and has topped Brentz's stats so far. I just don't know how much negotiating leverage he has playing football.

Please, please let the college hitters step up and give us some non-pitcher options that don't embarrass us on my birthday (draft day).

I can't see them taking McGuire - it just doesn't seem like their MO.
I've cooled on Brentz, mainly due to his BB/K ratio. If he doesn't have it now, he won't have it in the majors.

They would have too much at stake if they drafted this kid at #2. The injury concern would be too great also the development concern.

I do not think he should be drafted in the first round, let alone number two overall.I agree with this sentiment. While it is not completely unprecedented for something strange to happen in round 1 (see Tony Jorge Sanchez, 2009) no hitting talent has really separated themselves yet. I am thinking fans should focus more on the high school bats as of right now. Again, this could change, but I have a hard time imagining any college bat going number 2 overall. Heads should focus on the Machados, Sales, and Wilsons of the world for now. They clearly offer more upside and value at 2 overall. For the record I am not enamored with the idea of Deck. I really am not too enamored with any of the pitching options, but if we did go that way I like Chris Sale the best. Left handed, 6'6" 185lbs, low 90s fastball with some projectability left in the thin frame, groundball machine, fairly polished repertoire, and #1 prospect from the cape is not a bad resume.
