Comparing Steve Pearce to Jack Wilson is like comparing a young, ripe apple to a rotten apple that has trouble keeping its OBP above .300.

I have just always thought Jack Wilson's contributions to the Pirates on the whole were greatly overstated.

The right place for Pearce, if he's not going to start, is Indy.

If he proves he's ready to be called up, he needs to start everyday at the major league level, perhaps in June.

I, for one, really like Pearce and I believe he will continue to hit.  If he can hit, he needs to play.

Too many good outfielders is a good problem to have, if that really becomes our problem.

Here's hoping McLouth, Bay, Nady, Doumit, Morgan, McCutcheon, and Pearce all hit well enough to present some difficult decisions.

If that happens, I say we trade Jason Bay for two or three stud sigle-A or AA players, and re-stock the next wave of talent.

I would ride him hard in the spring, if he crushes the ball then I keep him up and take him north, either way he doesn't have much time left in the minors IMO

I am not totally sure what to do with Pearce this year because it seems that the Pirates aren't playing to be contenders this year.  Bob Nutting pretty much has said that himself.  If that is the case, then maybe the Pirates need to keep the core of Walker, McCutcheon, and Pearce together (is it sad that I could only think of three position players who can make impacts in the minors??)

I also think Pearce has proven himself at every level in the minors.  If he does make the 25 man roster, he should play at least three times a week.  It's nice that he can play 1B and he proved he can handle the outfield too.

I don't know why everyone is still down on Jason Bay.  Yeah, he had a bad year.  Most players do have a year where they struggle.  Bay was also hurt most of last year.  He has never had a strong arm, but he covered enough ground in the big LF to make up for that.  If his knee and speed is back, Bay will be very solid again in the field.  And who said he doesn't provide enough power?  As a right-handed hitter, he has averaged 30 HR's a year.

How come there is no talk about moving LaRoche like there is about Bay and Nady?  If Pearce is the real deal and 1B is his best position, LaRoche could be moved for prospects too.  I think LaRoche had a down year in 2007 too, but he shouldn't be untouchable.

I still don't think teams are drooling over Nady.  How did you feel when the Pirates acquired Amando Rios?  Rios's numbers were just like Nady's 2007 season the season he became a Pirate.

The smart move is to send him to Indy.  Let Nady and Bay play a month or so before the injuries, to boost their value.
