I don't think Wigginton is worth $5 million, especially for the Pirates.  He would be one of the highest paid players on the team and wouldn't be starting.  The Pirates can't have a $5 million bench player.

I wouldn't mind Wigginton as a bench player, but the cost has to be right for the Pirates.  I don't think Wigginton would want to be a bench player if he can start somewhere else.

Ty Wigginton can play left, right, third, second and first. His OPS was way over .800. His defense was adequate. He plays hard--maybe too hard if you recall his collisions with catchers while with Pittsburgh. When Adam starts bailing out against lefties early in the season, play him at first. When Andy goes into a slump, play him at third. When Moss' knees start to ache, play him in left. When Freddie gets injured, play him at second. Play him some in right. Get him four starts a week and use him three days a week as a pinch hitter. I like Wiggy-- he's a solid major leaguer off the bench, and he may light a fire under some of our starters! Reverse the Littlefield error and bring him back.

I am surprised at all the praise for Wigginton on the board.  When he was here the first time, he got booed and was never praised.  What has changed?

Time.  Revisionist history is a cottage industry.

Don't worry, I still have a strong dislike for him.

One thing he does NOT do is compete with Vasquez, a pull-hitting lefty with wicked splits.

No doubt.
