With Cubs GM Jim Hendry pulling the plug on the Peavy to Cubs deal (probably due to Tribune filing for bankruptcy) he remains a Padre
With Peavy having Alabama times (Braves territory) and the Braves having an abundance in prospects should the Pirates get involve in that?
I'd say if you include 2 of the Big 4 the Pirates could get the likes of Hanson, Hernandez, and some SD propects this can a win-win for the Buccos.
Is this possible?
No, I don't see it. 3-team deals happen when the receiving team doesn't have any prospects to offer the team with the big player.
ATL has plenty of prospects to offer, they just don't want to give up Hanson, Heyward, and the like.
If PIT were to get involved, what would we have to offer and what would we get back? SD is burning the team to the ground, they would want all the top prospects in the deal like Hanson, Heyward, Hernandez.
PIT finally is developing a young core of talent and now everyone wants to trade it away. The contracts that Doumit, McClouth, and Maholm are (hopefully) going to sign will be great value contracts for the Pirates through their arb years and 1st year of FA. These 3, plus hopefully Snell, are the basis for whatever version of contending the Pirates will try to do in 2010. When you add in A-Mac and Pete Alvarez, if you squint, you can see a real team.
Stop trying to ship them out of town.
