I know the 40 man is full with the signing of Vazquez and the draftin of Veal but being that Veal is a lefty will David Davidson be taking off the 40 man soon?

I realize that we will probably get Bloom back at some point but I am mildly miffed at Huntington's undervaluing pitchers who don't throw 95mph. See Todd Redmond and how he pitched for the Braves after the Pirates traded him for Yates.

In my opinion Veal > Bloom, so no real loss.

I like the pick of Veal. Hopefully fresh start in new organization will help him.

Either that or he'll walk three batters an inning in March and that'll be the end of that.

Don't know much about Veal (aside from the posted story and stats on Baseball Cube), but I was reallllly hoping they would avoid trying to hide a pitcher again this year.

I like the strategy of bringing in guys with good stuff. Eventually they're going to hit on one in a big way. Most will fail, but the upside is huge when one goes right.

In the 1960, and 1970's we had a big lefty named Bob Veale who was not too bad. Let's hope this Veal is just as good!

Looks like Neal drafted a steal in minor league Rule V draft
Andres Santos LHP 6-2 190 90-92 fastball developing curve great DSL numbers
Could turn into a Damaso Marte within 5 years

I suggest the following:
This Veal takes to wearing glasses like Bob.
The Pirates use him only on rainy nights
He throws the first pitch as hard as he can, and throws high while deliberately missing the plate.
He then reaches in his back pocket to take out a hanker chief to clean his glasses while at the same time shaking his head about having trouble seeing the plate and the catcher's signs.
He then throws the next pitch hard and inside, while again starting to reach to clean off his glasses.
I loved listening to Prince describing Veale pitching on a rainy night. Veale was just one of quite a few of the pitcher' during his era who could really throw hard. While others fireballers achieved more success --- Drysdale, Koufax, Gibson, Marichal and Maloney to name a few, I always was excited when Veale's turn came up in the rotation.
Let's hope that this Veal achieves even a modicum of the success and excitement that Bob Veale brought to the Pirates. The pick seems like a good low risk gamble by NH. What's $50,000 ventured on a pitching prospect when you need to pay $4 mil over 2 years for a back-up infielder.

When its all said and done with the rule V draft the Bucs got Veal,Santos and 2 other minor leaguers for Kyle Bloom and $36,000
One of the minor leaguers,Rafeal Quintero had a pretty sta line in the DSL last year for the Indians team. Hes 21 now,he had a 1.36 ERA with 48 K's and just 5 walks in 46 innings. Hes old for the DSL but he should be in the states this year while still 21 years old.
I would say overall thats a pretty fair trade off. When you add 4 arms like that you hope for just one to work out and you make out like a bandit

How about the night the lens fell out of the glasses, and Lou Brock would not get back into the batters box until it was put back in.
