CC to Yanks in a Monster seven year deal, 160 Million dollars worth.

Not having to face CC X number of times AND the Brewers not reaping the benefits.  The Brewers of coarse are disappointed, but me, I'm thrilled to the bone.

Even better is watching the Yanks in years 4 thru 7 of this deal have to deal with a fat pitcher with a ridiculous amount of innings on his arm.

$22M - $23M per year is a ridiculous amount to pay a player that plays once every 5 days.  Many analysts have discounted the whole "ace" theory anyway saying that it only adds 2-3 wins a year to a team.

I would rather have a deeper staff by paying 2 guys $11M a year than one fat guy $22M a year.

I'm not sure which is worse, the amount or the time.

He is going to have fun pitching for an all rookie team in a couple of years.  Posada, Jeter, AROD, Matsui, Damon are all in their mid to late 30s.

The Yankees can afford him but that doesn't mean he's worth it.  Pitchers get hurt so often that I would never give one a contract for more than four years.

I'm sure they will go after Manny too.  They had a lot of salary come off the books and the new stadium allows them to write down (not the right term, I know) their contribution to the revenue pool.

CC has an Out option after three years... and there is no way on earth he opts to go that route.  He's going to milk this puppy for all it's worth.

They are steamingly peeved in Milwaukee.

CC - So long and thanks for all the fish.

I expect him to be a Dodger, Angel, or Giant in 2012........the pressure from the NYC media and those obninous Bronx fans will be too great for him to handle.  Just look at what A-Rod is going through.

Sabathia didn't have much time in Milwaukee to be a Pirates-killer so this move doesn't really do much but speak to the poor roster management by GMs who think an impending free agent like him is going to be worth the prospects it takes to acquire.

The Brewers blinked, Tampa Bay held firm.

Pirates need to unload their veterans for more prospects and then weed out those who cannot handle ML baseball.

I would argue, though, that in this case you probably could say that the Brewers don't make the playoffs without Sabathia. And, once you get there, having a healthy Sheets and C.C. 1-2 in your rotation gives you an enormously better chance of progressing. Obviously, this didn't work out, with Sheets getting hurt and everything, but I really don't think it's fair to blame Doug Melvin for taking that gamble. Plus, the Brewers really did believe they had a chance at re-signing him and by all accounts they did make a legitimate run. It's just, sometimes, you can't compete with the Yankees if they make their mind up that really really want someone.

I agree.  That is the exact kind of move that a good GM with a good owner makes.  If your team is close and you have built the farm system correctly, you can weather that kind of hit.  And honestly, the Brewers didn't give up a lot.

LaPorta is a 1B/DH in the majors at best.  The others are nice pieces but not impact guys.  They didn't give up Escobar, Gamel, or Jeffress and still made the playoffs with CC.

Good trade for MIL and they did make a nice offer of 5 for 100.  That's a lot of cheese.

I'm guessing A-rod is going through about $10,000,000 per year after taxes.

Just wait when others like Fielder, Hardy and Weeks are traded in the future.  The Brewers' window is closing.

Exactly.  If the Brewers follow the small-market example of the Marlins they will deal studs for mucho prospects, and rebuild.  The loss of CC signals the end of this chance for the Brew, and they will gradually weaken.  So, like FLA used to do, trade your big guns for prospects and look three years down the road.

I think the sad thing for the Brewers is the fact that their stars are still pretty young and they might still have to deal them.  Even though they did get to the Playoffs with Sabathia, they might regret trading LaPorta away very soon.

If the Brewers lose both CC & Sheets, don't they get 4 draft picks back for their loss. Considering Milwaukee signed their top 25 picks from last years draft, having those extra picks in the first two rounds are more of an advantage for the Brewers. The PBC will have three picks in the first two rounds.

I really don't see how the Pirates benefit from CC heading to NY.

Huh?  (If) the brewers loose CC (and did) each and every time we face them over the coarse of the season we won't have to face him.  Maybe one pass we don't catch him but more likely we see him every time through.  CC is a guy that comes in and gives a team that chance to win a game.  All the players know it, on both sides.  Sheets didn't ever scare me but we saw him enough and Sheets would be a better pitcher matching up against other clubs second and third guys.  I'm sorry but I see this as very good for the Pirates. Very very good.

The Brewers are not going to make an offer to Ben Sheets, so we will be seeing a whole different angle when we visit Milwaukee or they come into PNC.

How is it that we don't benefit?  Are we suddenly going to play the Yankees at the clip of a Division Oponent?  Draft Picks?  We aren't going to see ANY of them for YEARS!  This season, we're better not having to face CC every time through the Brewers rotation.

Yeah, but I would rather see him a few times a year than in the World Series.
