I'm as passionate about the Redskins as I am about the Pirates.

Here's a to a good and injury free game against the Stillers this coming Monday. I've never known the Steelers to play in DC for a regular season game, is this a first?

With the NFL's current scheduling format, the Steelers should play their next regular season game in DC in 2016.

Scheduling format
1. Every team in your division twice (6 games)
2. Every team in your conference that finished in the same place within their respective divisions (3 games)
3. Matched against a select division within your conference [(3 games) already playing same place division finisher #2]
4. Matched against a single division from the opposing conference [(4 games) 2008 - AFC North v. NFC East]

In 2012, the Steelers v. Redskins game will take place in Pittsburgh. Seeing that you are a Redskins fan, the 2012 schedule could look something like this:

1. NYG
2. ( 1 NFC North team)
3. @ARI
4. Dallas
5. PHI
6. @STL
7. @CLE
8. (1 NFC South team)
9. @PIT
10. @Dallas
11. SEA
12. @NYG
13. BALT
14. CIN
15. PHI
16. SF

The two games missing would hinge on which teams finished in the same place as the Redskins within their division. 2016 would be similar, the home teams would be the visiting teams.

Go Stillers!

Wow, thanks for stats EBB, you da man!

16 years is a long time to wait, but hey, all us Pirate fans are used to waiting 16 years (or longer) for something good to happen.

We better make the most of Monday Night then!

Hail to the Redskins!

Ugggggg, horrible last three quarters for the Skins, simply horrible. Steelers seem to play so much better once Ben came out, I'm not sure if that was a coincidence or not.

Congrats to the Steelers, they played well. Also, some bad play calls on 4th down at the one yard line didn't help either.  Undecided

the next regular season matchup between the steelers and 'skins will be 2012, but they do not alter sites.  homefield will be determined by previous years records.

NFC v. AFC match-ups do alter sites every four years. Specific inter-conference division match-ups alter sites every three years. These match-ups and locations are based on patterns by the NFL Schedulers, not based on previous season's record.

In 2002 & 2006, Pittsburgh played the NFC South.
2002 - ATL, CAR @NO, @TB
2006 - @ATL, @CAR, NO, TB

In 2003 & 2007, Pittsburgh played the NFC West
2003 - STL, @SEA, @SF, ARZ
2007 - @STL, SEA, SF, @ARZ

In 2004 & 2008, Pittsburgh played the NFC East
2004 - @DAL, PHI, WAS, @NYG
2008 - DAL, @PHI, @WAS, NYG

In 2005, Pittsburgh played the NFC Central
2005 - @GB, CHI, @MIN, DET

In 2009, the Steelers NFC Central matchups will be GB, @CHI, MIN, @DET

Following the established pattern of the NFL schedulers, the Steelers 2009 Schedule opponents would be as follows:

NFC North - GB, @CHI, MIN, @DET
AFC West - @DEN, @KC, OAK, SD
Each team in the AFC North twice (Home/Away) - BAL, CIN, CLE
AFC East & AFC South same place finishers as Steelers in the AFC North.*

The Redskins 2012 Schedule opponents would be as follows:
AFC North - @PIT, @CLE, CIN, BAL
NFC South - CAR, ATL, @NO, @TB
Each team in the NFC East twice (Home/Away) - DAL, NYG, PHI
NFC North & NFC West same place finishers as Redskins in the NFC East.*

* - These two games locations are decided based on previous season's record.

The following link from ESPN goes back to the 2002 season and shows the pattern that each team in the NFC will play each team in the AFC at home every eight years. It also will show that the inter-conference division match-ups show the pattern that every team in the AFC will play each other at home at least every six years.
