What is the reaction in the Western PA. area to the recent comments by Joe Paterno regarding discipline at Penn State?

Penn State has had such a great reputation for so long, it is almost unreal to read some of these stories coming out of Happy Valley these days.

It's a shame, Steve. Integrity and education were long time Penn State qualities. I think may people would rather see the Lions lose games during Paterno's later years than lose their reputation as a classy institution and program.

I second Steve's comment about JoePa needing to retire.  He has lost touch with his coaches, his players and also the alumni at Happy Valley.

JoePa was and always will stand for winning college football but his methods have seen their day.  No longer will a kid go to PSU because of JoePa or the school's reputation.  If that were so Terrell Pryor would be enrolling to the east of Jeannette rather to the west in Columbus this fall.

JoePa needs to demand that his coaches recruit high character and high academic type kids.  The focus at one time was on this type of kid at PSU.  That is how JoePa made his reputation.  No more sad to say.

As for the alumni, JoePa needs to make them understand (that is if JoePa understands himself) that recruiting in big time college football has changed and that winning big year after year is not possible like in the old days.

Finally, as Steve so wisely says JoePa has to retire.  Do it now JoePa before your reputation becomes further tainted by your ineptitude brought on by age.
