Anyone know when the Pirate full squad practices start this month? Like an exact date or an educated guess? Thanks for any help.

Pitchers & catchers report Feb 19th, and I think the full team will report either the 24th or 25th. They play exhibition games the following weekend.

I was at Pirate City last week. Jose Tabata was already working out. Also, FWIW, the talk there was that Derrek Lee wants to retire. Which begs the question, "So what is he waiting for?"

I love to hear this. In all of the discussion off-season moaning and groaning nobody mentions Tabata. Actually, most people exclude him from future outfields (as early as 2013), but i think he has a real chance to break out this year if he stays healthy. He has already showed he can hit the ball, take a walk and swipe a base at the major league level. If his power sneaks out a bit more this year he could be an extremely valuable player especially with that contract.

Maybe he'll want to retire as a Cub and sign one of those ceremonial $1 one-day contracts.  Heh, I wonder if that would be enough to get us the draft pick.
