Looks like he's signing with the Nats

That's likely to make John Lannan on the trade block.  Is it worth $5 million for the Bucs to acquire him?

He's not unlike Maholm.  I'd offer nothing but a D level prospect for his salary.

Well the Bucs have missed out on Jackson but the O's have put Rick Vanderhurk on release waivers.

He might be someone they could add to the pile of depth candidates.

I can't believe it was just in 2008 or 2009 that I thought the Bucs were better than both the Nats and Reds.

I wouldn't go just for Lannan, but if the Bucs could trade Gorkys and  Barmes  and get Desmond and Lannan I would do it (Nats probably wouldn't though).  I think they are looking for a less risky centerfielder than Gorkys.

Desmond's defense is atrocious, and I don't think we can trade a newly signed free agent, can we?

desmond makes errors but I think he has potential.

I"m sure we can't trade Barmes but I would rather have Desmond than Barmes.

When Frank Robinson managed the Nats he thought Desmond's glove was good enough for majors then but so far he has been an error machine.  There has been speculation that he could be centerfielder with Espinoza moving to short.

I would rather get Espinoza but think the cost would be too high.

Never was all that interested in Jackson. Too many baserunners for my taste.

Still, it is interesting that Washington just keeps spending money when everyone assumes they don't have it to spend.

They must get a ton in parking revenues I guess.  Enjoy the show

Or they play in a more than twice the size as Pittsburgh that also has a median household income that is also more than double.  Not to mention their owner is not a Nutting.

The fans on one of the Nats boards think they have a really cheap front office...they even have an acronym they use instead of haveing to type it out...LAC = Lenrnes Are Cheap...they need to come over here!

I went to a Nats game (thanks lobbyists) last season and sat in $75 seats.  I was in the same seats at PNC a month earlier for $28.

I try to take in a couple of different ballpark/games a year. PNC has the best deals (cheapest seats) around....good for my pocketbook, not good for the (continual) revenue argument.

Did you guys hear about all the Twitter hits Edwin Jackson was getting form Pirates fans to sign?

I head about it from some app I have on my phone about the Pirates.  I am not on Twitter, but I find that pretty funny.
Jackson did thank the fans.  He had to have liked that attention.

Ken Rosenthal says the Pirates made a three year offer to Jackson, believed to be in the $10 million a year range. They also made a one year offer that was below what Washington gave him ($11 million).

Unfortunately, for most of the 'bucs are cheap' complainers the offer doesn't mean anything unless he is actually signed.  And if the bucs do sign him, there will be another faction that complains that they overpaid.
