I don't think Marte's age will hurt him much.

The difference will be in his time to be a major league player.

He has done well at AA already, as long he performs he is still on track.

If he is really 27 or 28 it will mean the Bucs will control his peak years.  Downside would be he isn't as marketable when he gets closer to free agency.

He is not someone who is developing like Rojas but is already shown he has talent and skills.

Whoa Nellie!  Are you folks saying that Marte is 4-5 yrs older than he actually is?  If you are basing things on wvbucco's comments I think you are reading things into this discussion that are wrong.  I believe that wvbucco is talking about Sanguillen being that much older than he actually was credited with being.

I can't possibly see why Marte would confess to lying about his age while he is still a prospect.  That sure would screw up his future.

Is anyone aware of this scandal outside of OnlyBucs?  Or is this discussion of Marte's real age our own, private crisis?

Most likely the latter. But his being a Latin American prospect there will always be some doubt I suppose. If for some reason he really is two or three years older than we think, his chances of becoming 80% of Cutch do take an extremely big hit. If he can keep hitting for a good average and for even more power at AAA rhis year, however, I must admit I won't much care how old he is!

The Pirates are really concerned about his age.  It could really affect a McCutchen deal.

They are?  Haven't seen anywhere that they are!  Will wait until someone that is credible makes an announcement about Marte's age.

Same info from the guy I talked to this weekend.  McCutchen won't be moved unless Marte is ready.  Being five years older will hurt Marte.  Again, you can take that info for what you want.  I don't know how true it is, what I heard second hand.

what does this mean?  what guy you talked to this weekend? (sorry if it was in another thread i missed it)

some guy said marte is 28?  he looks so old that i almost believe it already at just this minor suggestion.
