I think the Pirates were chasing him for at least a couple of seasons while he was blowing up in Baltimore.  He took the last two seasons off and has decided to come back as a 31 year old and sign a minor league contract with the buccos.  He did have a couple of decent win/strikeout seasons so "maybe" the Pirates get real lucky and have Ryan Vogelsong part deux on their hands.  It would be nice to see the Pirates make at least one more "big" move this offseason.

BTW- The Pirates might have a chance to smack both Maholm AND Duke around this season as Duke signs with the Astros today.  I think he is a Texan so good for him and potentially good for the Pirates.

You know that's now how it works.  The Pirates make all mediocre, or worse, left-handers look like Steve Carlton.

Actually, it looks like Cabrera tried to find work in 2010.  Signed by the White Sox in January, probably went to spring training, they released him in mid March.  He signed with the Angels in June and spent some time pitching in AA (Arkansas) and AAA (Salt Lake).  He excelled in those two locations, posting a combined 0-3 7.09, most of the damage to his ERA coming from his 11.70 in 10 innings with Salt Lake.  Pitched only 26.2 innings, striking out 20, walking 16, gave up three homers.  The Angels cut the cord with him in the off season.

Can we cut the cord now? I know that he'll probably never make it out of spring training....but this guy walks more batters than he strikes out at age 30. This isn't even good dumpster diving. The rats threw this guy back.
