The FanGraphs Site has listed their top 15 Pirate prospects.  Hmmnn --- Bell #2 with Tallion #3 is interesting.  Also some ongoing love for Sanchez at #4.

I'm sorry, that TOP 4 tells me everything I need about this list.   Clearly they are going straight with name recognition from recent drafts.    Probably made it up while they were writing it ... I'll read it now and see if I'm right.

Back at'cha soon.

Yeah, Sanchez at 4 and Marte at 6 is odd. Hulet took some flack in the comments section for his Texas Rangers list that came out last week. I think his general approach is to take a teams consensus top 10 or 9 from other, more reputable sites*, and mix up the # 2-9 players, so as to not completely resemble other lists.

I'm not sure of his credentials. His bio is certainly the most odd of all the FanGraphs writers, simply saying, "Marc Hulet is the second longest serving writer at FanGraphs. His work focuses on prospect analysis, as well as the annual amateur draft."

OK then, I guess

*more reputable prospect sites. I love FanGraphs for everything *BUT* the prospect evaluation done by Marc Hulet and Mike Newman

Ok, now that I read it i'ts not as ill informed as I expected but I have come to realize that the best prospects information and by far the best prospect ranking comes from this here OnlyBucs forum.

I do still think highly of Sanchez but at best he needed swapped with Marte who was miscast at # 6.   Until he gets some professional experience I have to hold off on Bell at #3 too but many here would disagree.   One spot I actually think he got right was dropping Allie out of the top 10.

Okay cut and paste filler article but I give it no more weight than most opinions on this board.

Why can't someone have a different prospect ranking?   Bell is a flipping stud, why couldn't he be ranked ahead of the most volatile type of prospect (high school pitcher).

Also, I like Sanchez still being ranked high.   Finding ML average defensive catchers are very hard...ones with plate discipline is even harder.   I don't remember the last good defense catcher we've had.

And while I'm more on the Marte bandwagon than ever, I'm still an OBP guy and low walk totals do normally preempt failure later.

I suppose it all has to do with how you value prospects.  I was very surprised to see Fangraph's Top 15, in particular Sanchez at #4, Owens at #13, and Hanson labelled "Sleeper Alert."  Nevertheless, I appreciate seeing a different perspective as much as anyone,  but Fangraphs credibility looks a little shoddy on this on.

Well I can at least understand why Bell is #2. I'd take him over any hitting prospect at the moment, even the polished ones...switch hitters w/power are sorta rare...especially ones that wear bucco uni's.

And an educated fan COULD easily write off Sanchez's issues to the weight loss from the injury.

The only issue i have with the prospect rankings so far is BA placing the system at #13...just wait until ZVR blows up this year...
