Now that Kuroda has signed with the Yankees, it looks like Burnett, Garcia, and Hughes are going to fight it out for the 5th starter.
I know the Pirates were recently linked to the idea of kicking the tires on Burnett. What about Phil Hughes.
He's an interesting case considering he's only a year removed from winning 18 games in the AL East. How the Yankees (and the rest of the market) value him is tough to discern given the way he was yanked around a bit last year.
Would you be interested in pursuing Hughes (I think he's 2nd year arb)?
What do yo think it would take to pry him away from the Yankees?

Would be similar to the Pirates trading Alvarez, the Yanks would be trading 50 cent on the dollar. Hughes did mysteriously lose velocity last year and I think you would have to see him healthy before committing to him in trade. NH would look awfully silly if they were to trade Starling Marte and Lincoln for a guy who "might" be on his way to some arm reconstruction.
Hughes would be an interesting gamble, but you couln't pay for his 2009-10 season and I'm sure that's what the Yankees would be asking for.
