Saw this on MLBTR

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/01/white-sox-still-listening-on-gavin-floyd.html

Says the Buccos might be interested in Floyd.  What are your thoughts and if you think he would help the team what do you think the Buccos would have to give up to get him?

It really doesn't indicate the Pirates have any interest......but that they would be a good fit for Gavin Floyd in the authors opinion. He would add more SP depth to the rotation, but he's not an upgrade to our current staff IMO. We've already got several number 3 & 4 starters, we need an upgrade in quality, not quantity necessarily.

It would make sense if they planned to exercise the option in 2013.  2 years at $16M is reasonable for a 3-4 WAR pitcher you can depend on for 30 starts and 195 innings, ERA right around 4.00.  Not facing a DH might help his numbers a bit too.  xFIP of 3.64, 3.69, 3.73 the last 3 years.

Not sure what the Sox want in terms of prospects.  The Sox didn't get top prospects for Quentin (minor league bullpen guys, maybe a closer prospect).  I like Floyd and would be willing to talk.

I would take a McPherson, Lincoln, and a low tier prospect to acquire him.

I hope the Pirates find a way to acquire this guy.

I'd love to see them get Floyd. His ERAs have been decent considering he's in the A.L. He has good control, which is impressive because his curve moves quite a bit. And his best years may still be ahead of him. I'd say he's better than anyone currently in the Pirates rotation and he's already producing, not developing. I don't know what the Sox are looking for but the article says prospects. It would take a pretty decent prospect(s) but, with only 2 yrs of control, the Sox can't expect the moon and stars. No Taillon or Cole.

His WHIP has generally be okay too, since going to Chicago.  He'll actually miss bats on occasion, as well. Outside of McDonald(for 5 innings), strikeouts are about as frequent as sighting Halley's Comet for the rest of the Pirates' staff from last season.

His home park shouldn't be discounted either.  Makes his AL numbers just a touch more impressive.  If memory serves, U.S. Cellular has been a pretty serious hitters park since they brought in the fences a while back.

Floyd is a guy who fits the M.O. of starters that the Pirates should have been looking at the last couple years:  Productive SPs who may be saddled with a sizeable contract, but that means his team will probably be willing to accept less in prospects from teams that can eat most of the balance of his deal(and the Pirates can).

Moving back to the NL probably wouldn't hurt him either.

He'd certainly be worth exploring.
