Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Reds and Ryan Ludwick have agreed to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2013.
Not a surprising landing spot considering Ludwick's history with current Reds general manager (and former Cardinals general manager) Walt Jocketty. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that he'll make a $2.5 million base salary with the chance to earn an additional $500,000 in performance-based incentives. Ludwick, 33, batted just .237/.310/.363 with 13 home runs, 75 RBI and a .674 OPS last season between the Padres and Pirates. He'll share playing time with Chris Heisey in left field.

Could a power resurgence come to him in GABP?

Will the Bucs get a compensation pick for this signing by the Reds.  Don't recall whether the Bucs offered Ludwick arbitration; don't think they did.

They won't/they didn't.  Doubt it even got much consideration.  He made nearly $7 million in 2011.  The only way he wouldn't accept arbitration would be in one of those handshake deal arrangements.  I'm actually a little surprised he got as much as he did from the Reds.

....hence why we acquired him for nothing.  If he would have netted us a pick the Padres wouldn't have just given him away for cash.

To me this is an overpayment for Ryan.

He should have only gotten a NRI.  Probably past history with GM does play a big part.  The Reds definitely are gearing up to go for division title this year.

But his power should play a lot better in Great American than it did in Petco or PNC.  As a player like Ludwick ages he retains more value for teams in smaller parks than for teams in larger parks.  It reminds me of Bay being a great fit for Fenway as his power declined but a poor fit for Citi Field--unfortunately he and/or his agent didn't appreciate this.
