On a minor league deal, per Langosch's Twitter.

He has a good arm. I think it is a good signing, he is still young enough that he could turn it around.

Any minor league deal is fine with me. And his numbers weren't much worse than Maholm's.

Fills the Burres role but with more upside. Fine by me.

Ok Johnny...I believe the answer to that question is...Who started 26 consecutive games without posting a single win?

Pathetic...once again. That's some vicious dumpster-diving Opie. I think you've hit rock-bottom.

Clearly when the Pirates look for minor league pitchers their first concern should be wins.

I certainly can't feel good about this signing. Reyes has been downright horrible throughout his major league career. I don't see any upside trends. His career ERA is 6.05 and it is a consistant 6.05 .....yikes! I know it is only a minor league deal, but at some point if you sincerly want to improve you have to sign better players that what they have signed this off season.
I have been surprised with the lack of movement on some of the free agents and am starting to believe that a firstbaseman may fall into the Pirates laps........but then again, thats if they have any true sincerity.
Please no more Jo-Jo's this off season!

You guys are making a mountain out of a molehill.  It's a minor league signing.  Every major league team signs these types of players as depth.  It's nothing more.

So, what were you saying to the Atlanta Braves when they gave this bum a spot in the starting rotation 3 years ago?  Those same Braves who are heralded as the best team in the major leagues at developing pitching.  There's no debating how bad Reyes has been, he's been JVB bad.  But to jump off the deep end use Wins of all stats (the guy's been awful at everything, and you cite wins?) is not exactly making an argument.

Reyes belongs in AAA on the 0.001% chance he finds some control to go with the stuff.  Nothing to get excited about.

Come on now...it's not just wins. How bad do you have to be to start 26 consecutive games without finding a win anywhere? This guy is epic bad. Are they trying to sign the worst players in baseball because it sure seems like it from here. This guy isn't better tan anyone and he's had very good chances. I don't see how there are any positives to find in this unless he's looking for players who are really good at losing. Pass pass pass.

No problem with this signing. He's super inconsistent, but he's number 7 right now.

How much faith does a perennial winning organization like the Braves have to have in you to give you 37 starts over 3 seasons?  I find it interesting that although I'm not opposed to this signing, I can understand the disappointment if the guy is penciled in to the starting rotation.  Yet others on this board refuse to look at how dominant the guy was for a period of time in the minors and say "eh, what the heck?  It's a non-guaranteed minor league deal."  All while ignoring the fact that the Pirates aren't the only team who has granted this guy the same opportunity, he's not old and clearly has major league stuff.  Amazing that people will whine about stuff like this.

Personally, I don't get why a minor league signing would bother anyone, but people still gripe about them. Unless you're a fan of the Indianapolis Indians, I don't see the big deal. Worst case, he may have to make a few major league starts if there are a bunch of injuries and the actual prospects in AAA aren't deserving. In that case, it's either Reyes or whatever minor league filler they have instead. Best case, maybe he figures something out, and in that case they control his rights for a few years. Most likely case, it makes no difference one way or another.

I like it a lot.  Guy's got great stuff but never found any consistency.  High risk...possibly high reward.    LHPs do well PNC.  If he hits he's not a free agent until 2015.  If he misses, so what.

There's a reason the Braves retained him so long, and the Jays and Os took chances on him....

OK then....when are they going to actually start signing players who DO make a difference? Almost every other MLB team does...teams in smaller markets than ours. We sign Overbay, Aki and the like. I don't think the current crop of retread signees is likely to be much better than the former crop. When do they stop just throwing things up against the wall to see what sticks or keep trying to reform failed players, and start actually spending the SAME money on one real good player instead of several bad or mediocre players? After 19 years of losing, if not now.....when? When will the excuses stop?
